Having a teenage driver is something most parents have or will have gone through. Lack of driving experience makes teen driving risky and leads to high crash rates. As a parent, it's easy to become fearful of your teenager hitting the road, but there are steps you can take to help ensure their safety.

These tips include:

  • Enroll your teen in a drivers education course. This will help them learn the rules of the road and get real world experience.
  • Pick the safest car you can that's within your budget. The car your teen drives should be easy to handle and offer advanced safety features.
  • Be direct when speaking to your teenager about the effects of drinking and driving. They should be fully aware of the repercussions.
  • Distracted driving should be avoided. Limiting the amount of passengers and putting their cellphone away will help keep distractions at a minimum.
  • Lead by example by practicing safe driving techniques in front of your teen.
